Clive Johnson’s B2Gold (BTO:TSX) has released additional results from their 134 hole, 23,500m 2013 drill campaign at the company’s near-term Otjikoto project in Namibia.  The latest results were from the Wolfshag zone which sits immediately east and northeast of the planned open pit for the project.   Results from the Wolfshag zone highlight the potential to significantly increase resource grades which could lead to project expansion, both in throughput and mine life.  This ore will help increase the economics of the deposit as well, by potentially decreasing operating costs by increasing the average head grade.

Highlights from the latest assays include:

  • Hole WH13-098: 30.10m of 6.02g/t gold including 15.85m of 10.55g/t gold
  • Hole WH13-103: 16.2m of 9.39g/t gold including 12.8m of 11.27g/t gold

The current resource model at Otjikoto is comprised of probable mineral reserves of 29.4Mt at an average grade of 1.42g/t gold.  The drilling on the Wolfshag zone continues to return high grade gold over significant thicknesses in a series of en-echelon stacked, shallow easterly dipping mineralized shoots. The shoots plunge at 10 to 15 degrees to the southwest and have been traced to the south down plunge for 1,600 metres strike length.  Drilling has been focused on the northern 1,000m of the total strike and has encountered significant gold grades.

These types of additional closely located higher grade deposits are what BTO has become known for.  In Nicaragua, they have the operating La Libertad and El Limon mines which together should produce roughly 185,000 ounces this year.  La Libertad and El Limon have 2P reserves with an average grade of 1.7g/t gold and 4.82g/t gold, respectively.  BTO found the high grade Jabali deposit near the La Libertad mine which is providing higher grade feedstock for the existing mill.

At this years Denver Gold Forum, Clive said: "there's no better ore in the world than higher grade near a mill."  And that's exactly what they appear to have found at Wolfshag.
