I hate to sound smug, but I’ve got a new iPhone 6, and I’m having a great time getting to know what’s fast becoming my new BFF. After managing to sell my old iPhone with a brand similar to Bank My Cell just before I got it, I was in dire need of it to be delivered. Thankfully, it came early!! I know, yours is still on order, and I feel sad about that, but since I spend part of my year in the US, I ordered my phone through my service provider there and three days later it appeared on my doorstep.

I’m getting ahead of myself. In fact I’ve been waiting for the new generation of iphones (6 and 6 plus) since my US plan expired last February, and I’d done a fair bit of research online in anticipation of the big launch. A friend of mine even suggested some stores that offer Cracked Screen Repair should I ever need it in the future, although I'm pretty good at keeping my phones intact, you never know when you might develop butterfingers. A quick conversation with my youngest son (and CEO.ca website founder Tommy) confirmed my conclusion that the super sized Iphone 6 Plus was the smartphone/phablet for me. “Its like the Big Bertha’s Mom” he advised me, “Get the biggest phone you can.”

We’re a golfing family, you see, so we tend to rate, navigate, or measure the world in terms of either golf equipment, or golf shots. For example, when my daughter moved into an office building just down the block from where I worked, she explained that she was just a 7-iron away.

In 1997 they called this "The Biggest". Today Callaway drivers are almost twice the size.

Likewise, in the conversation I had with Tommy about which new iPhone I should get, he naturally referenced the Big Bertha family of drivers produced by Callaway, launched in 1991. Tommy was a Big Bertha devotee of exceptional purity. He whole-heartedly adopted the bigger is better credo and somehow managed to win, trade, or out right buy each new upgrade in Berthas, which included (and I’m not kidding), the Great Big Bertha, the Biggest Big Bertha, and the Great Big Bertha 11. The fact that he was a short assed chubby punk who consistently hit a massive slice with the too big Berthas he steadfastly insisted on playing with failed to convince him that bigger might not be better.

And he maintains that position to this day. Which is why, of course, he is still fowling around with his old iPhone with the cracked screen while he waits for the iPhone 6 plus he has on order, and I own and am operating the new iPhone 6.

Oh, I’ll admit, Tom had me convinced for a time that bigger is better in phones. But when I actually held both models of new iPhones in my hands, I realized that for me, the 6 is plenty big enough.

I upgraded from an iPhone 4, so the difference in size of the iPhone 6 is significant. The 6 plus is huge, and I found I couldn’t use it with one hand at all. Of course, it’s a personal decision, and I don’t have very big hands, so it’s best you get the phones in your own paws before you commit.

I will tell you that I love the new iPhone 6, for a few important reasons.

  1. The bigger size of the screen (4.7”) is awesome. My close up vision is not great, so I wasn’t using my old iPhone 4 for much. I’m using the new phone for everything.
  2. The display is amazing. Everything looks brighter, clearer, sharper (and bigger, of course) than the old phone.
  3. It’s faster - Apple claims a 25% boost in speed, and it’s really noticeable to me, especially coming from the iPhone 4s.
  4. The camera is terrific, and easy to use. I’m not a photographer, but the pictures and movies I’ve been taking with my new phone look like I am.
  5. The fingerprint sensor is cool, and works almost all the time without a glitch.

On top of this, AT&T gave me a $200 in store credit for trading in my old iPhone 4, and I loaded up on cases (2, one a fancy lace pattern which nicely compliments my gold phone), a car charger, extra charging cables, and I can’t even remember what else I got so much stuff.

I’m on the road right now, and I like my new iPhone 6 so much that I’ve left my trusty old iPad mini at home. It may be that the iphone 6 will just be a stepping stone for me, and ultimately I’ll have a much bigger phone. Maybe not the iPhone 6 plus, but the Biggest Big iPhone 6 plus II, which will not doubt launch sometime in the next few years.
