As stated in our article yesterday, Ivanhoe Mines is currently (emphasis on currently) under capitalized to move Kamoa and Kipushi forward with major developments until the company secures some sort of financing for them.  However, as we stated, these two projects are absolutely world-class and they are controlled by Robert Friedland which means they will be financed in one way or another soon (joint venture, spin-off, equity, strategic investor).… Continue Reading

Ivanhoe Mines’ Kipushi project in the D.R. Congo was one of the world’s richest copper, zinc, germanium and precious metals mines from 1924 until political instability in the Congo forced the mine’s closure in 1993. This post originally appeared in South China Morning Post. Three years ago, Robert Friedland, executive chairman and founder of Ivanhoe Mines, told the Hong Kong Mines and Money conference: “Hong Kong will become the largest mining finance market in the world.” Four years on this clearly hasn’t happened, which has led some to wonder if it… Continue Reading

I joined CNBC Africa during the Mining Indaba convention last week in Cape Town, South Africa. We think the risk/reward proposition for buyers of Ivanhoe Mines (TSX:IVN) is quite attractive from current levels (below 1.70). From a Technical Analysis perspective, the multi-month falling wedge has dropped into the 1.50-1.70 support zone. Volume has also dried up which we like to see before a big bounce – $2.00 is a reasonable short… Continue Reading
