Arizona copper explorer Desert Star Resources has three early stage projects in the most productive copper producing region in the US, the Globe Miami district.

At the Red Top project the company announced results of a geophysical survey today that show a 1400 meter long anomaly which have helped Desert Star to identify a high priority drill target.

I called up Vince Sorace, CEO of the company, for his take on the results. He told me the geophysics have identified a large sulphide body that's indicative of a copper porphyry system. The company plans to drill test the project soon, Sorace says.

Geophysical surveys are just one tool in the explorer's toolkit, however with so much copper mining activity in close proximity to the deposit, today's results are encouraging.

Sorace also told me to expect geophysics results from the Copper King and Copper Springs projects in the coming weeks.

The company will likely need to raise additional capital or find a JV partner before drilling begins at either of the Arizona projects.

My colleague Travis McPherson is a big fan of the geological team leading Desert Star, notably Dan MacNeil and Al Wainright. Trav authored an interview with Dan and Al as well as a site visit report here previously.
