"If you've got a business - You didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen." President Obama, 7/13/12

Daifallah

Conservative commentator, author, McGill University lecturer and public affairs strategist Adam Daifallah riffed on the Obama "Build that" blunder on Facebook this morning, and I wanted to share it with you here:

"The quote is not disingenuous. It is polarizing, and people on both sides have strong opinions about it. If it weren't so damaging to Obama, his defenders wouldn't be so outraged. It is very offensive to businesspeople and people who believe in free markets because the notion that a host of outside factors other than your own labour made for your success is outrageous. Even if I grant you all his "nuance" and "context" etc... and accept all your arguments in his defense, the whole speech is still, on its face, offensive and could only have been made by someone who knows nothing about business and how they are built. His comments should even be considered "unAmerican" in the sense that they fly in the face of the essence of American exceptionalism and the America notion of the work ethic that has made the US the most successful richest nation in world history. Obama is very good with rhetorical subtlety, which is why what he says is even more dangerous. He is insulting self-made people through his furtive, clever weasel words. It's an attack with a smile. The fact that I'm calling him out on it (as are many of others) shouldn't be a surprise. I truly believe this President is bad for America and that the November election is a critical moment for the future of the USA and the preservation of limited government."
