ELKO, Nevada -- Last week, in a presentation panel in Toronto, I told an audience of 200 that Gold Standard Ventures' (GSV in Canada and USA) Dave Mathewson and another Nevada stalwart, geologist Roger Steininger at NuLegacy Gold (NUG in Canada), were of a type: good old Nevada boys in their senior years, with old-style prospecting habits and a kick-bum country-boy accent.

GSV came in today with 98 meters of 3-plus gram gold in one of its headline exploration holes at Railroad.

It is looking, says Mr. Mathewson, like a large (2 million ounces gold with silver?) Carlin-style deposit in the Nevada badlands.

Gold Standard CEO Jonathan Awde, about 33-odd years younger than Mr. Mathewson, tells us today Thursday, "Northern offset of 13-8. Very important to see this kind of continuity and grade distribution. Really opens up the whole northern portion of the North Bullion Fault Zone. "

Slight tick: I want our TCR 8 select portfolio members to avoid using overreaching language -- adverbs such as exceptionally, for instance. That is about the only bother I have about GSV's report today. If you-all look at the box of intercepts below, you will see that except for one span of 12-gram gold, these stretches all look spread out and thick enough to mine easily.

Mr. Mathewson calls it "uniformly thick, high grade mineralization in the lower breccia zone ." Thanks for including a decent map with this. (Attached.)By the way, I learned this past weekend that Scorpio Gold (SGN in Canada) also a nearby property, called Pinon. It's a breccia pipe target. Peter Hawley's company also lies in that southeast corner of Nevada's Carlin Trend. I think Scorpio shares sell for perhaps half of the company's projected gold-sale cash flow from its Mineral Ridge operation (gold and silver) in Nevada.

IVANHOE: This has been a good week for TCR. Aside from the higher commodity prices, we are seeing new family members flock to the fold -- from South Africa, Australia and even Italy. Part of this is the coverage we are getting from our tour of Ivanhoe Mines' operations in Africa. (IVN in Canada) I wanted to thank Ivanhoe's principals for being good hosts on that tour of DRC Congo Copper Belt at Kamoa, and Kipushi, and Ivanhoe's Platreef/Flatreef. This was earlier this month of September.

Our TCR review will be out shortly. In advance, I will say thus far that my one concern is the amount, and cost, of talent Ivanhoe' founder, Robert M. Friedland, is cobbling together. Five-star talent includes Lars-Eric Johannson, his CEO; David Broughton, his exploration chief; Steve Garcia at Kipushi and Kamoa; Mike Gray in London. Steve Garcia supervised the building of Ivanhoe's Oyu Tolgoi mine in Mongolia for about seven years closing out 2012. That's now called Turquoise Hill. Mike Gray knows more about mining, and can chat about it colloquially, than most anyone working full time. Then there are the second line, which is always my favorite, because these are the folks you get to eat with, and dance at the disco with. Gerick Mouton, Jeremy Michaels, Lex Geraghty, Jess Harding, Peter Brokenshire, Trisha Naidoo, Dr. Danie Grobler. Danie is a force of nature. Seems to know more about the platinum hunting grounds of the Platreef than anyone I have met to date. (See more.) Plus:

More to come, including the site review by early next week.

Adds: I now own Mason Graphite (LLG in Canada). I am in the process of purchasing MDM Engineering (MDM in London). ... Shares of Natcore (NXT in Canada) continue to benefit from the filing of a patent for artificial retina carbon nano-tubing. The patent is just filed, not granted; the stock I am told will go parabolic in coming days -- short supply. I own it.

Thom owns a small amount of Scorpio Gold, a few thousand shares. Thom owns about 100,000 shares of Ivanhoe Mines (IVN in Canada). GSV and NUG are members of the TCR 8.
