The TSX Venture Exchange is out with a white paper designed to address its role in these junior resource market conditions, the grim financing situation and restrictive financing rules.
Calls for changes - from groups including the Venture Capital Markets Association to politicians such as West Vancouver-Capilano Liberal MLA Ralph Sultan - have been increasing in volume in recent months as commodity prices grind lower along with TSXV share prices.
The bellwether S&P/TSX Venture composite index recently slid below 500, an all-time low.
The white paper was a hot topic at CEO Chat.
@Benjamin Cox: "Frankly the exchange should just do a 1934 style house cleaning, overnight issue notices to any company with negative working capital and a sub 5 cent share price, give them 60 days to comply and then out with the lights."
@low-ball: "Companies listed on Venture need to speak up on HFT,Algo's Bots shorting etc its up to listed companies to get change on venture."
TSXV is a critical part of TMX's equity markets continuum, an important driver of the Canadian economy, and a key element in Canada's innovation and venture capital ecosystem. The initiatives outlined in this paper will provide both near- and long-term benefits to the marketplace, and are directly aimed at improving the client experience on TSXV.
As a first step in its new evolutionary phase, TSXV is committed to making a positive, tangible impact in three important areas to:
1. Meaningfully reduce our clients' administrative and compliance costs without compromising investor confidence.
2. Expand the base of investors financing companies and generally enhance liquidity.
3. Diversify and grow the stock list to increase the attractiveness of the marketplace.
The white paper is at www.revitalizingTSXV.ca and the TSXV will hold a series of town-hall meetings in early 2016 across Canada.
