Endeavour_Mining (1)I called Endeavour Mining's Vancouver office this afternoon for an update from the operator of three African gold mines. SVP of Business Development Doug Reddy returned my voice mail moments later with the following update:

"We've got upcoming year-end results and guidance coming up. We're going to be doing an update on the Agbaou Mine. Basically we are tracking according to our guidance, and I think the market has been waiting for us to clear commercial production on Agbaou, which we've been through our commissioning phase. Our official opening is coming up at the end of the month, so it's all good stuff. A big factor of course is gold price. We've always been told by the analysts that they want to see us perform quarter over quarter. I think this year-end results will help, and then we'll track through the rest of this year. We've been able to do a good job with all of our 2013 objectives, and of course we're not building any new mines or anything like that in the coming year, but we do have some programs that will help continue to bring down some of the costs in two of the mines."

Endeavour Mining shares have been highly correlated to the gold price, with a positive correlation of .94 in recent weeks.

The company likely offers tremendous operating leverage to the gold price. With that said the market would not look too kindly on EDV if the gold price broke to new lows (under $1180).

Mr. Reddy concluded the voice message stating he would be on the road for the next several weeks conducting analyst site tours in Africa and presenting at investment conferences.
